Senior Activities in Reno

April 9, 2010

The City of Reno has a number of programs for older citizens offered through its Department of Parks, Recreation, & Community Services. Among these are Senior Travelers, Brunch and a Movie Club, Senior Dance Club, the Sierra Nevada Senior Games, and the Paradise Park Community Garden. To get a schedule of everything that is happening, go to the city’s Senior Programs web page and click on the Senior Connections Newsletter link (it’s in pdf format and will download if you have Acrobat Reader).

For those interested in the Paradise Park Community Garden, there will be required orientation sessions on Saturday, April 17 and Friday, May 14, both at noon. You must attend one of these and pay the $5 fee to get a plot. The season last through October.

Opening ceremonies for the 2010 Sierra Nevada Senior Games are on Friday, April 23. The Games are a whole series of events for those 50 and above, ranging from bocce ball to track & field and held at various venues around town. Things wind up with closing ceremonies on Sunday, May 9. You can learn more from the website or call (775) 334-2262 for information.
