Reno Celebrates National Parks and Recreation Month

July 11, 2010

In recognition of the value of recreational activities and public parks to the quality of life in a community, the Reno City Council has proclaimed July National Parks and Recreation Month in Reno. Frequently going to a park and being active can reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health, help ward off obesity and decrease feelings of depression. Playing in parks also helps children build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, and improve self-esteem. There are plenty of things to do in Reno’s public parks and open spaces.

Reno residents and visitors will be able to enjoy several special activities throughout the month of July…

  • Free drop-in Teen dance group at the Neil Road Recreation Center in July (all month) on Monday and Thursday nights from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Seniors can learn how to play Pickleball at the Neil Road Recreation Center for free on Tuesday, July 13th from 9-11:30 a.m. or join the Conversation Café program for free from 10-11:30 a.m. and enjoy coffee and pastries.
  • Celebrate Rosewood Lakes Golf Course’s 19th birthday on Tuesday, July 13th when green fees will be the same as they were 19 years ago in 1991 – $17 to walk, $24 to ride.
  • Free swim at Traner Pool on Saturday, July 17th from 1-4 p.m.
  • Adopt-the-Grounds work day at the Neil Road Recreation Center on Monday, July 26th from 10 a.m. – 12 noon.

The City of Reno Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department promotes a high quality of life for residents and visitors alike through programs, activities, and accessible facilities throughout the year.
