Call for Artwork for City of Reno’s Art Galleries

The City of Reno is accepting proposals from artists for the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in the city’s art galleries between October 2010 and October 2011. The Cultural Affairs Division manages these galleries and curates exhibitions. The McKinley Gallery is located inside the McKinley Arts & Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive, and the Metro Gallery is located at Reno City Hall, 1 East First Street. Proposals must be received (not postmarked) by Monday, August 2 at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center. Submit proposal materials to Public Art Program Coordinator, McKinley Arts & Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive, Suite 2, Reno, NV 89505. Submissions should include:

  • A CD with ten images that are representative of the work proposed for the exhibition. The work must have been completed within the last two years and must not have been shown within a 100 mile radius of Reno.
  • Image List: Typed, numbered and should identify the title, dimensions and medium of each piece.
  • Resume.
  • Artist Statement/Proposal: A brief statement about the artistic philosophy proposed for the exhibition.
  • Return envelope, self-addressed and stamped for return of all materials.
  • Artist Registry Form.

Conditions of Exhibition: Each artist whose works are accepted for exhibition will be required to enter into a lender contract with the City of Reno. Twenty percent (20%) of sales will be retained for the McKinley Gallery Administrative fund. Insurance not provided. However, McKinley is an occupied building which includes an alarm system. The artist is responsible for all delivery and shipping costs and for insuring the works in transit to and from the gallery. Installation and publicity will be discussed between the artists and the Public Art Program Coordinator. The Public Art Program Coordinator shall direct the installation of all artwork in conjunction with the preparator. All artworks must be ready for installation upon arrival at the gallery.
