The Heat is On

July 23, 2010

After freezing for months, I’m really enjoying these hot summer days. The weather forecast says it’s going to stay this way through the weekend. With that in mind, you might be a little too hot and interested in some ways to cool off.

One way to chill is going to a public swimming pool in the Truckee Meadows. You can also check out the numerous water play places we have, some of which include water play parks. One of my favorites is tubing down the Truckee River from Crissy Caughlin Park to Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. It’s free and right now the water is refreshing rather than frigid.

When it’s hot down here, it’s usually quite pleasant up at Lake Tahoe. A drive up the Mt. Rose Highway will take you to Kings Beach State Recreation Area, a big north shore beach park just west of Incline Village on the California side. It’s a popular spot and finding a place to park is a chore, but access to the beach is free.
