Nevada Humane Society Duck Race & Festival
August 25, 2010
The 2010 Nevada Humane Society Duck Race and Festival will be held on August 29, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Wingfield Park. You can adopt a duck (or several) and help a homeless pet at the same time. 10,000 bright yellow rubber ducks will race to the finish line in the Truckee River, raising money and awareness for the cause of homeless pets in our community. The fastest rubber ducks will win exciting prizes, including a 1989 British Racing Green Jaguar, Disney World Getaway, Las Vegas Adventure, and a Petapalooza Pampered Pet Package. All entries have a chance of winning $1,000,000, sponsored by Walmart.

Ducks can be adopted for $5 each. Adopts yours in person at Nevada Humane Society, 2825 Longley Lane, Reno, or online. There will be adoption tables at a variety of community events, farmers’ markets, and major stores, such as Walmart and PetSmart through August. Every Monday night in August, you can dine out with your dog at the Wild River Grille and adopt a duck at the same time. A complete list of duck adoption locations can be found on Nevada Humane Society’s website.
The Festival will include live entertainment, clowns, carnival games, pet adoptions, and a variety of refreshments. The Duck Race will start at 4 p.m., with prize winners for the fastest ducks announced shortly after the race. Winners do not need to be present.
