Labor Day at Sparks Marina

September 3, 2010

Over the Labor Day weekend, Sparks Marina Park will be open for family fun and swimming Saturday through Monday, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Swimming will be permitted in the designated swim area only, weather permitting. Speaking of weather, the forecast is calling for sunny, warm days. The park is located at 300 Howard Drive in Sparks.

Here are a few rules visitors need to observe at the Sparks Marina swimming area…

  • Do not distract the lifeguards while they are working. Questions should be directed to the Recreation Office at 353-2376.
  • Children under eight years of age must have an adult with them in the designated swim areas at all times. Keeping your child within an arm’s length is a good policy to follow.
  • Toys, rafts, noodles, etc. cannot be used in place of swimming ability or for water safety purposes.
  • Groups of 25 or more must make a reservation.
  • Shade areas are first-come, first-served unless they are rented.

There are also other Labor Day activities around the Reno area. The biggest event is the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off, which just happens to be going on in Victorian Square and not far from Sparks Marina.
