Reno Non-profit Organizations More Important Than Ever

October 13, 2010

As you would logically expect, non-profit organizations throughout the Truckee Meadows have experienced large increases in the numbers of people seeking assistance. Many organizations directly involved with helping people in need of basic services (food, shelter, clothing, etc.) are straining to keep up as the recession drags on. I don’t need to tell anyone that it’s worse in Nevada than just about anywhere else in the country.

With the traditional giving spirit of the holiday season coming up, all of us should consider what we can do to help the less fortunate in our community. It doesn’t necessarily involve money, either. Volunteers are one of the things non-profit organizations frequently need. You can also help with food donations to one of my favorite groups, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Whatever you may decide to do, remember that every little bit helps and it always makes a big difference to those who need it the most.
