Grand Opening Open House at Galena Creek Recreation Area

A day full of family-oriented outdoor activities, including guided hikes, children’s crafts, displays of wildfire fighting equipment, and a chance to meet Smokey Bear will celebrate the completion of the new Galena Creek Recreation Area on Mount Rose Highway. The Open House is a great opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to learn more about this wonderful new resource for visitors to the Mount Rose corridor. The installation of the interpretive exhibits within the Visitor Center in October completes the project’s construction and a Grand Opening Open House will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 6.

Here’s what will be going on and everything is free…

  • First look at the new permanent interpretive exhibits now on display in the Visitor Center.
  • Guided tours and hikes of the new Galena Creek Recreation Area held every hour starting at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • Nature-themed family crafts and activities.
  • Display of fire equipment and fire prevention information.
  • Smokey Bear will be present throughout the event.

The Visitor Center’s winter hours are in effect from October 15, 2010 through April 30, 2011. Winter hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
