Winter Weather Blast This Weekend

November 18, 2010

The party is over. The sunny, mild weather we’ve enjoyed this past week will be giving way to the first significant winter storm to hit the Truckee Meadows in 2010. According to the National Weather Service, the system will start arriving with increasing winds and falling temperatures on Thursday and Friday. Snow levels are expected to down to the valley floors in western Nevada (that’s us) with the possibility of significant accumulations of the white stuff on Saturday and Sunday.

Up in the Sierra, of course, it’s going to be lots worse (or better if you are a skier). If you need to get over the hill into California, Friday is going to be your best bet. Travel over here could be treacherous as well. Before heading out, make sure your car is in good shape and check highway conditions and the weather forecast. The Mt. Rose ski area, scheduled to open on Friday, may have to wait until next week if it gets wild enough up there.
