In Their Paws Event at Nevada Humane Society

December 17, 2010

Nevada Humane Society will remain open for pet adoptions throughout the night of December 18, as local celebrities and volunteers spend the night in shelter kennels to raise money and awareness for homeless pets as part of the In Their Paws Event. You can make a donation to help free those in the kennels and contribute to the overall goal of raising $10,000 for Nevada Humane Society that weekend. Come down to visit with the animals, enjoy hot cocoa and refreshments, lend support to the folks sleeping at the shelter, and maybe adopt a new best buddy.

Celebrities, including Trooper Chuck Allen of Nevada Highway Patrol, Miss Teen Nevada Alina Jackson, and Santa Claus himself will arrive at 2 p.m. on December 18 and stay until 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 19. They will be joined by many volunteers who will also spend the night at Nevada Humane Society. It’s all part of the Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive which has a goal of finding homes for 1,200 pets before January 2. Since the November 17 launch, 542 animals have been adopted with 658 remaining to reach the goal.

“These volunteers and celebrities are spending a night in the shelter to call attention to the homeless dogs and cats who live here, on average, for two weeks waiting for someone to adopt them,” said Bonney Brown, Executive Director for Nevada Humane Society. “Additionally, they hope to raise funds for the animals which is wonderful and greatly needed.”

Nevada Humane Society is open for adoptions 7 days a week (except for Thanksgiving and Christmas day) from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and an hour earlier at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. The adoption center is located at 2825 Longley Lane, Reno.
