New photo exhibit at Reno’s Metro Gallery

May 8, 2011

A photography exhibit by Barrett Donovan will be on display at Reno’s Metro Gallery during May and June. Admission is free and hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Metro Gallery is located on the first floor of Reno City Hall, 1 E. First Street.

The large color photographs in this Water and Light exhibit present scenes which document extraordinary moments of nature or travel. The artist waits for the decisive moment to capture each image, sustaining expressive light forms forever.

“My goal is to create images that represent nature in a way that elevates its status and remains truthful to the subject,” said Donovan. “For that reason it is important to me that the image is true to what was experienced at the moment I made the photograph.”

Donovan earned a Masters degree in civil engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. His interest in photography began 15 years ago during a trip to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. His experience influenced the artist profoundly and sparked his interest in photography. When he returned to Nevada, he decided to pursue a career in photography. He traded in his point-and-shoot camera for a digital SLR and has been shooting ever since.
