Summer movies and more at the Fleischmann Planetarium

June 18, 2011

Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center at the University of Nevada, Reno, is screening several immersive theater experiences for summer 2011. There are two large-format feature films, Hurricane on the Bayou and Mystery of the Nile, and five full-dome digital shows, including the legendary rock ‘n’ roll masterpiece Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. The Planetarium’s full-dome summer show schedule plays June 3 to September 5, 2011.

The Planetarium Exhibit Hall museum will display the award-winning moonbuggy built by Washoe County School District students and raced to a 2011 rookie win in NASA’s annual Great Moonbuggy Race, held in April at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. The Exhibit Hall also contains permanent exhibits, including large-scale rotating Earth and Moon globes, a black hole demonstrator, and the largest collection of meteorites in Nevada. The exhibits are free.

Fleischmann Planetarium is located north of Lawlor Events Center at Virginia and 16th Streets, on UNR campus. Free parking is available in designated spaces in the West Stadium Parking Complex, level 3, just east of the Planetarium. See the online schedule for show tickets, showtimes and Planetarium hours. Call (775) 784-4811 for more information.
