Open House at Swan Lake
September 25, 2011
Experience the wonders of one of the region’s most spectacular wildlife areas and help Mother Nature take care of her own during the Swan Lake Open House on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Swan Lake Nature Study Area in Stead. From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a variety of activities will be offered for all ages, including cake and a raffle at 1 p.m., a volunteer planting event, and guided tour of the Nature Study Area with Bob Goodman of the Lahontan Audubon Society (bring binoculars of you have them).
The volunteer planting of native, riparian plants is to help restore Horse Creek, which runs through the Nature Study Area and into Swan Lake. Wear old clothes and RSVP in advance to Becky Stock of the Nevada Land Conservancy – (775) 851-5180.
Swan Lake is just north of downtown Reno and home to a vibrant and diverse population of birds and other wildlife, including the migrating swans that gave the lake it’s name. To get to Swan Lake, go north on U.S. 395 and exit at Lemmon Drive. Turn left on Military Road, then right on Lear Blvd. (Overhead Door Co. on the corner). At the end of pavement, turn left on gravel drive.
