Celebrate Nevada Day in Carson City

October 24, 2012

The big Nevada Day celebration involves a whole series of activities in Carson City, starting on October 25 and wrapping up on October 28. The main event is the Nevada Day Parade through downtown Carson City, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 27. The theme for Nevada Day 2012 is Honoring Our Military & Families – Past, Present, Future. Parade co-Grand Marshals will be Staff Sergeant Edward Cosens, U.S. Army Air Corps (Past), Sergeant 1st Class Jeremiah Mock, U.S. Army (Present), and E-2 Sea Cadet Alexis McKenzie, U.S. Navy (Future). The parade, however, is just one of many events surrounding Nevada Day. It will be a fun weekend down in Carson City.

The Nevada Day holiday for state and local government (but not federal) is Friday, October 26. Offices will be closed to celebrate the admission of Nevada to the union on October 31, 1864. An admission day holiday like Nevada Day is only observed in two other states – Hawaii and West Virginia.
