National Passport Day in Sparks

February 27, 2013

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, the City of Sparks will participate in National Passport Day, sanctioned by the U.S. State Department.

The Customer Service Department at Sparks City Hall regularly provides passport service Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. National Passport Day is the only Saturday of the year when people who plan to travel outside the U.S. can apply for a passport. Passport Day is expected to provide added convenience for anyone who plans to travel outside the United States. Special hours for Sparks Passport Day are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To prepare for Passport Day, travelers may pick up a passport application at the City of Sparks Customer Service Department at Sparks City hall, or download the application online from the U.S. Department of State travel site. Applicants will need to bring a certified U.S. birth certificate or original naturalization certificate and a valid U.S. driver’s license, state-issued ID card or current U.S. passport. Minors seeking a passport must have both parents present with valid picture IDs.

The entire passport application process takes about twenty minutes per person. People who participate in Passport Day can expect to receive their passports within four to six weeks, with expedited service available for an additional fee.

Passport fees start at $110 for adults and $80 for children up to age 15. A check or money order is required for each individual passport, payable to the U.S. Department of State. City of Sparks fees are $25 for each passport application processed and passport photos can be taken on site for $15. Sparks fees may be paid by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.
