Free family fun – Nevada Humane Society Duck Race & Festival

August 18, 2013

Nevada Humane Society’s Duck Race & Festival is swimming back for a fourth, fun-filled year with a goal to adopt 15,000 rubber ducks to benefit homeless pets. Adoption season is underway and the excitement continues through the Duck Race & Festival on Sunday, August 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. 15,000 bright yellow rubber ducks will race to the finish line in the Truckee River, raising money and awareness for the cause of homeless pets in our community. The fastest rubber ducks will win exciting prizes, including vacation packages and a chance to win a $400,000 cash prize.

Ducks can be adopted for $5 each at the Nevada Humane Society shelter (2825 Longley Lane in Reno) or a variety of community events and farmers’ markets, as well as Smith’s grocery stores, Great Basin Federal Credit Union, or Archie’s Giant Hamburgers. Visit Nevada Humane Society to adopt online and for a complete list of community adoption locations.

The Festival will include live entertainment, clowns, carnival games, raffles, vendors and a variety of refreshments. Dogs and cats from Nevada Humane Society will be there in search of loving homes and the Duck Race will commence at 4 p.m., with prize winners announced shortly after the conclusion of the race. Winners do not need to be present.

This event is made possible by sponsors News 4, KOH AM 780, K-Bull 98.1 FM, Magic 95.5, Wild 102.9, Reno News & Review, as well as the many Duck Partners and volunteers. The Duck Race & Festival is free and open to the public.
