Free admission day at the Sparks Museum & Cultural Center

October 24, 2013

The Sparks Museum & Cultural Center will be maintaining regular hours this weekend and is offering free admission to Nevada residents on Friday, October 25, in honor of Nevada Day. (Please bring proof of residency.)

This is your opportunity to check out “Sparks Best Kept Secret,” a truly local museum representing everything that makes Nevada great. The museum is community driven and completely donation funded and volunteer operated. Visitors are often surprised by the quality and quantity of information in exhibits focusing on Sparks and the Truckee Meadows.

The Changing Gallery and the Cultural Center are currently featuring a special Italian heritage exhibit. The Western Folklife Center in Elko has loaned select pieces of artwork and photographs, from their Italian Buckaroos collection, for this one of a kind exhibit in Sparks. This unique display covers a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from Reno’s Little Italy neighborhoods to the early settlers and the Buckaroo and ranching lifestyle they brought with them. A compilation of artifacts, photographs and archives have been shared by the local community, giving one a glimpse at Italian traditions and culture.

The Sparks Museum & Cultural Center is located at 814 Victorian Avenue, on the corner with Pyramid Way and just off of I80. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, free for members and children under 12. For more information, call (775) 355-1144.
