Movies for free in Reno and at Lake Tahoe

July 14, 2014

There are several venues in the Reno / Tahoe area showing free movies during the summer months. These aren’t the very latest blockbusters, but many of them are recent hits and most are suitable for families and kids.

“Movies in the Park” show in Wingfield Park on Friday evenings during July and are part of Artown. There are Tuesday night movies at UNR’s Joe Crowley Student Union and movies at various branches of the Washoe County Library. Up in the Lake Tahoe area, catch free flicks at Squaw Valley.

For a treat that isn’t free, but is really cheap, try a star show at the Fleischmann Planetarium at UNR. These movies are shown with state-of-the-art projection equipment are are truly amazing. Just visiting the Fleischmann Planetarium and its exhibits is free and fun for both adults and kids.

If movies aren’t your thing, try a wide variety of free outdoor music concerts around Reno and Lake Tahoe this summer. Many are related to Artown (like Rollin’ on the River), but there are numerous other choices in the Reno area and up at both ends of Lake Tahoe.
