Have fun around Reno this weekend

September 23, 2014

Fall is officially here, but things haven’t slowed down much just yet. There are a number of fun, mostly family-friendly activities this weekend in the Reno area.

Museum Day Live! is on Saturday, September 27. This event, sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine, provides for free admission to participating museums and cultural venues across the country. Several of these happen to be in the Reno area – the National Automobile Museum in Reno and the historic 4th Ward School in Virginia City.

Truckee River Clean-up Day is on Saturday, September 27, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and your help is needed. Volunteers will work at one of several locations along the Truckee River corridor, picking up trash, removing invasive weeds, stenciling storm drains, and more. After the work, enjoy a free BBQ lunch at Rock Park in Sparks

On Saturday, September, 27, bring the family to Galena Creek Visitor Center and Recreation Area for Galena Fest 2014. The day will feature a wide variety of activities, with something everyone will find fun.

Reno’s downtown beer crawl takes place the 4th Saturday of every month, which is September 27. The event starts at The Waterfall, 134 W. 2nd Street (near the corner of 2nd Avenue & West Street). For $5, crawlers get a wrist band, map, and glass to use for refills at participating bars. The crawl is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Street Vibrations is in Reno, Sparks, and surrounding areas through Sunday, September 28. This is quite a street party and you don’t even have to be a big bike rider to enjoy lots of free entertainment and the colorful spectacle. Be prepared, however, for congested traffic and lots of noise.
