Winter is coming

October 29, 2014

Both Halloween and the big Nevada Day celebration are this weekend, but a coming winter storm is likely to put a damper on the merriment.

According to the weather forecast, windy conditions and a chance of rain will arrive Friday afternoon and go downhill from there. Rain and a chance of snow continue that night and into Saturday. Fortunately for Halloween trick-or-treating, there are a some indoor venues for the little ghosts and goblins. There are quite a few Halloween parties for adults as well.

Nevada Day is going to be a different story since the big parade on Saturday in Carson City and many other activities are outdoors. Come prepared for chilly temperatures in the 40s. It might be worth it, though, as this Nevada Day marks the Silver State’s sesquicentennial. The theme is “Happy 150th Birthday, Nevada!” Remember that Friday, October 31, is a holiday for state and local governments.

If your weekend plans include driving up to the mountains, be prepared for winter conditions and check highway conditions before heading out.
