Holiday events at Sand Harbor

Visit Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe on December 13 and 14 to spice up your 2014 holiday season by taking a sleigh ride, visiting Santa Claus, or renting snow shoes to explore the beach. The park restaurant will be open weekends for holiday drinks and snacks, with meal and sleigh ride packages available.

Holiday Ornament Crafting

Crafting with kids is a great way to add a little sparkle to the holidays. The park will supply materials and work with children to help them create handmade ornaments to deck the halls of your home. A $5 donation is suggested to help cover costs. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday, December 13, 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Sand Harbor Visitor Center

‘Holiday Heritage’ Talk

Park staff will give a presentation on the history and customs of this most-celebrated holiday season. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Sand Harbor Visitor Center.

Sand Point Hike

Enjoy the crisp mountain air while taking in the splendor of Lake Tahoe on this easy 3/4 mile hike around the Sand Park Boardwalk. Along the way, park rangers will point out interesting facts about plants and animals in the area. Be sure to dress for the weather and bring your own snacks and drinks. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sunday, December 14, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Meet at the Sand Harbor Visitor Center

Sleigh Rides at Sand Harbor

Take a sleigh ride along the shores of Lake Tahoe. The unique handcrafted sleighs, drawn by mighty Belgian draft horses, accommodate four to six people and can be equipped with wheels to operate when there is no snow. Warm blankets and hot chocolate are provided, and caroling is encouraged. The park restaurant will be open weekends for holiday drinks and snacks, with special meal and sleigh-ride packages available.

These tours are operated by Borges Sleigh Rides. Rides are available through January 3, 2015 (weather permitting). Weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekday rides are available by reservation. For more information, call (775) 588-2953.

Sand Harbor is three miles south of Incline Village on Highway 28. Entry to Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park at Sand Harbor is $7 per vehicle with a $2 discount for Nevada Residents.
