Discover Crystal Peak Park in Verdi

May 25, 2015

Crystal Peak Park is one of those places you might not find unless someone tells you about it. It’s worth taking the drive to Verdi to find out what this park has to offer.

I went to Crystal Peak Park to check out the interpretive nature trail and was pleasantly surprised to find much more. History is one of the things – there used to be a big lumber mill and then a popular resort where the trail and park are now located. Interpretive signs tell the stories. The trail is a loop, it’s flat all the way, and only hikers are allowed – no dogs, bicycles, or horses.

Two small lakes (remnants of mill ponds from the Verdi Lumber Company) are popular fishing spots and there are shaded picnic areas. The two parking areas are free as is access to Crystal Peak Park amenities. Fishing requires a valid Nevada fishing license.

To reach Crystal Peak Park, drive about 10 miles west of Reno on I80 and take the Verdi exit past Boomtown and Cabela’s. At the stop, turn left on S. Verdi Road and follow signs pointing to Crystal Peak Park.
