Assigned-Day Watering in the Truckee Meadows

A rainy May was welcome relief from the dry winter, but it wasn’t enough to break the current four year drought. Now that summer is arriving, things are getting back to normal in the form of higher temperatures and dry weather for the next few months. Those of you trying to maintain outdoor landscaping need to be extra careful with water use. Here are some helpful hints and guidelines from our local water purveyor, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA).

Assigned-Day Watering designates when to use outdoor sprinklers, as explained below. However, there is more to it than just turning your sprinklers on and off at the right time. Get more details from “Weather-Wise Watering.” Use the last number of your home or business address to determine your watering days (odd or even).

  • Rules in effect from from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
  • Even addresses – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
  • Odd addresses – Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
  • No watering between 12 noon and 6 p.m.
  • Mondays are no watering days for everyone.

We all use water for much more than just keeping the yard green. To learn more from TMWA about saving and wisely using this precious resource here in the high desert, refer to “Water Conservation.”
