Be prepared for disaster

Floods, wildfires, earthquakes, snow – all of these natural disasters have struck the Reno area multiple times and are sure to happen again. By being prepared, you won’t be caught flatfooted when any of these events occur.

Depending on where you are when natural disaster occurs, you might be stuck at home or unable to return. You might be separated from family and loved ones and unable to get back together or even make contact. Basic services like water, electricity and transportation could be cut off. These situations are when you will fully appreciate the time you took to prepare ahead of time for such possibilities.

Washoe County and other agencies provide extensive information about disaster preparedness, including creating an emergency plan, assembling an emergency kit, making arrangements for pets, and getting information during a disaster. These are all things to learn about and take care of before you really need them. It will give you peace of mind to know you can likely deal with what comes along without having to go into panic mode.
