Dog park re-opens at Rancho San Rafael Park

March 19, 2016

The popular off-leash dog park at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park will re-open on Saturday, March 19, 2016, after having been closed since May of 2015. The dog area is part of a large, multi-use pasture at the park. The lower, eastern portion of the pasture will remain closed, but the upper three-fourths of the pasture will be open.

The area was closed to all uses last year due to lack of water. Irrigation for the pasture comes from the Highland Ditch, which gets water from the Truckee River. However, the Federal Water Master shut the Highland Ditch off because of low water flows in the Truckee. To preserve the pasture for future use, it was temporarily closed to all public use, including off-leash dogs.
