Get your sample ballot online

April 16, 2016

Voters can now opt-out of receiving a paper sample ballot in the mail and instead get an online electronic copy from the Washoe County Registrar of Voters office.

Once you are signed up to receive an electronic sample ballot, the office will email you when they are available online. This is approximately one month prior to an election. The next voting opportunities in Washoe County will be the primary election on June 14, 2016 and the general election on November 8, 2016.

To opt-out of paper and receive your sample ballot electronically, go to the online “Sample Ballot Opt Out Form” and submit your information. Your email address will not be shared with third parties – it is against state law. To go back to paper, there is another online form you can use.

When you receive an email indicating that the electronic sample ballot is available, go to the “Washoe County Registrar of Voters” website and enter your last name and date of birth. Sample ballot, polling place assignment and mail-in ballot status will be available prior to each election.

Note that requesting an electronic sample ballot is not the same as requesting an absent ballot. To request an absent ballot, download, print and complete the form, then mail it to the registrar’s office. Your application for an absent ballot must be received by the Registrar of Voters Office no later than 5 p.m. on the Tuesday prior to each election.

Of course, none of this matters if you aren’t registered to vote, which is pretty easy to do in Nevada.
