Getting a marriage license in the Reno area

May 12, 2016

Getting a marriage license in Reno and Washoe County is pretty easy. Like most everything else involved with the government, however, there are a few rules to follow and fees to pay. Marriage licenses issued by any county in Nevada are valid in every county.

There are two marriage license bureaus in Washoe County – one in Reno and another in Incline Village on Lake Tahoe’s north shore. The Reno office is open 8 a.m. to 12 midnight, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Incline Village keeps regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, closed on holidays. Licenses can be obtained up to a year prior to the wedding.

Rules and fees for marriage licenses from nearby areas like Carson City and Douglas County (Carson Valley, Stateline/South Lake Tahoe) are a bit different. Get more information from “Marriage Licenses in Reno and at Lake Tahoe.”

The same-sex marriage issue is not an issue in Nevada. Same-sex couples can obtain marriage licenses through the same procedure as heterosexual couples, no hassle involved.
