Theme trains on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad

July 13, 2016

You can make a ride on the Virginia and Truckee Railroad (V & T) even more fun by climbing aboard one of the special theme and holiday trains scheduled during summer, fall, and winter. Some of these are popular and sell out quickly, so advance tickets are a must if you want to avoid being left on the boarding platform. This is especially true for special trains like THE POLAR EXPRESS™.

In addition to regularly scheduled runs (from May through October), here are the V & T theme trains for the rest of 2016 on the long route from Carson City to Virginia City…

  • Dinner & Melodrama Train (July 30, August 13, September 10)
  • Toast of the Canyon Wine Trains (July 23, August 27, September 24, October 15)
  • Labor Day Weekend Trains (September 3 – 4)
  • Grandparent’s Day (September 11)
  • THE POLAR EXPRESS™ (November 17 through December 23)

The shorter route on the V & T excursion train also features special theme trains. This ride is a round trip from Virginia City to Gold Hill and back, with several departures daily. Generally speaking, advance tickets are not required.

  • Civil War Days and Battle Trains (Labor Day weekend)
  • Pumpkin Patch Trains (October)
  • Day Out With Thomas (October)
  • Candy Cane Express Trains (winter holiday season)
