Urban oasis at Virginia Lake Park

July 25, 2016

Virginia Lake Park is a beautiful place to at least temporarily escape from the frenzy of urban Reno. The historic lake (built in 1938-39 by the WPA) is surrounded by big trees, a paved pathway, and benches for just sitting and enjoying the atmosphere.

Virginia Lake Park has playgrounds, grassy fields, a path for walking or jogging, picnic shelter and tables, barbeques, restrooms, paracourse fitness areas, fishing pier, an off-leash dog park, and the 25 acre lake. Recent improvements include updated engineering for lake water quality and refurbishing of the dog park.

Virginia Lake Park is next to Lakeside Drive and just south of Plumb Lane. There is free parking along Lakeside Drive and in a small lot at the north end of the lake.
