UNR Wolf Pack starts 2016 season vs. Cal Poly Mustangs

August 25, 2016

The Nevada Wolf Pack football team kicks off its 2016 season schedule with a home game in newly renovated Mackay Stadium on Friday, September 2. This is the 50th anniversary of the stadium and fans are invited to come enjoy a number of new amenities.

This first Wolf Pack game of the season starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be against the Cal Poly Mustangs. A couple of upcoming games feature big name opponents – Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sepember 10 and the Purdue Boilermakers on September 24. However, these are away games and you’ll have to do radio or TV if you want to follow them while they’re happening.

The biggest and most important Nevada Wolf Pack football game of every season is the intrastate Battle for the Fremont Cannon against the UNLV Rebels. This year, the game will be in Las Vegas, kickoff TBA on Saturday, November 26, 2016.

No matter how each team is doing, this game is almost always exciting due to the rivalry. Both teams and their fans want to take home the Fremont Cannon trophy real bad (or keep it if they had won the previous year’s contest). The Pack lost the Fremont Cannon last year in Mackay Stadium by a score of 17 to 23. Go Pack!
