American West at the Nevada Museum of Art

April 5, 2017

An exhibit of works by Maynard Dixon, renowned artist of the American West, is currently showing at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. The exhibit will be in the Robert Z. Hawkins Gallery through July 16, 2017.

Dixon’s art comes from the collections of Bruce C. Paltenghi and Dr. Richard Paltenghi. The Paltenghi brothers have amassed over seventy artworks that offer an intimate look at Dixon’s life in the American West. In addition to paintings, there are many never-before-seen drawings with subjects ranging from mountain and desert landscapes, to portraits and nude figure studies.

“Hands ON! Second Saturdays” is on Saturday, April 8, 2017. The day features free museum admission for everyone along with family-friendly art activities, storytelling, guided tours, live performances, and more. The theme for April is “Celebrate the Art of Mexico.”

The Nevada Museum of Art is located at 160 West Liberty Street in downtown Reno. There is free parking next to the museum and more available nearby. Go to “Where to Park in Downtown Reno” for details.
