Help stop invasive and noxious weeds

April 7, 2021

What are noxious weeds? They are plants that have been identified by the state of Nevada to be harmful to agriculture, the general public, or the environment.

Though it’s not immediately obvious, invasive weeds cause serious problems with the water supply and other natural features in the Truckee Meadows. Here are some of the negative ways noxious weeds affect our area…

  • Increased soil erosion
  • Increased soil salinity
  • Increased flood potential
  • Decreased water quality
  • Decreased forage and crop yield
  • Displaced wildlife and native plants
  • Reduced recreation potential
  • Increased fire danger

For more information about each of these impacts, visit “Help Stop the Invasion of Invasive and Noxious Weeds!” from Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB). This article also provides ways you can help prevent the spread of these bad plants while visiting the great outdoors, plus information on volunteering for KTMB cleanup events.
