During winter inversions, an atmospheric cap over Reno and the Truckee Meadows can trap smoke and smog, making for some dirty air. This phenomenon also affects the temperature; when an inversion is in effect, it’s usually colder in Reno than up at Lake Tahoe. Photo © Stan White
