The City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of inclusive / adaptive programs and activities, including sport leagues, programs for veterans, rentals and volunteer opportunities. The goal is to provide accommodations to people with disabilities so that full participation in leisure and recreation programs, classes, services and facilities may be enjoyed by all.

The Adaptive Connect newsletter for summer, 2021, offers a continuing variety of ways those with disabilities can fully participate in Reno recreation programs.

Note that Reno works with the City of Sparks in presenting some activities. An example is Mark Wellman’s Adventure Day at Sparks Marina. It will be on Sunday, June 6, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. People with disabilities, and their families and friends, are invited to this free event, where adaptive climbing, kayaking, and cycling will be available.

The 2021 Nevada State Fair will be at Mills Park in Carson City from Thursday through Sunday, June 3 to 6. Fair hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.

A wide variety of family-friendly activities and events fairgoers like will be at the Nevada State Fair, including the midway and carnival rides, lots of entertainment and more. There is no entry fee and parking is free at Carson High School. However, tickets are required for the midway carnival rides, games, and food.

Programs on the Porch for 2021 features historical presentations and performances by local musicians, plus an appearance by former President Roosevelt. A variety of talents will be showcased starting at 7 p.m. during each Friday night of the series. The performance series at Bowers Mansion Regional Park is free, however donations for the performers are accepted. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to get comfortable on the lawn. Here is the line-up…

After being COVID-canceled in 2020, Bowers Mansion tours are back. They resume on May 15, 2021 and will be every hour on the hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adults are $9, seniors (62+) and children 6 to 17 are $6, kids 5 and under are free.
